Imperial Altar of Ming & Qing Dynasties · UNESCO World Heritage
The Temple of Heaven was first built in 1420 during the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty. It was the place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. It is the largest existing ancient sacrificial architectural complex in China with the highest ethical rank.
In 1998, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, renowned worldwide for its rigorous architectural layout, unique structure, and magnificent decoration.
